At Priory we see homework as an opportunity for children to share what they learned in school that day with their guardians at home offering a connection between the parents and the teacher. Research has consistently shown that parental involvement in a child's learning is a key factor in that child's achievement in school.

The Big Write

Big Writing is a methodology that is highly enjoyable and motivating and has an immediate impact for all children. Proven and effective, Big Writing is the perfect teaching method to raise standards in writing.

Our teachers are dedicated to each and every child, to getting the best out of them and to catering for their individual needs. Not only are children supported in areas, but many are challenged and extended in their areas of strength. This contributes to a very positive learning environment. The ability to differentiate and good knowledge of the children are essential qualities for all our teachers here.

Learning to Read and Write

With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve.
We have also found that as children are individuals when it comes to their learning style, some children also benefit from a different approach. To this end, we use Action Words and Sounds Write to assist those who find the phonics a bit of a challenge.

The Big Write

It helps teachers to support their pupils as they learn and develop the ideas, vocabulary and higher level grammatical structures needed to improve their writing almost entirely through talk. Children begin to recognise where they can improve their own work and become proficient at self-editing. This method is fundamental to children being responsible for their own work and so they may have the power to achieve success regularly.
